Eleven Sydney Hills athletes were amongst the 87 swimmers who competed in this year’s Regional Swimming Carnival at Oakhill College.
While the number of Hills swimmers was down from last year’s 18, those that did take part did our club proud, taking home 10 first place ribbons.
Top scorer this year was Emma Matthews, who scored three wins from her five races. Corey Atkinson touched home first in two of his five races and second in another two, while ever-reliable Sean Sweeney also earned two firsts.
Raymond Xing is also to be commended for his one first and four second place ribbons. Shay Bell and Ashlie Becker (daughter of event organiser Russell Becker) also scored a first place each.
Twelve clubs competed altogether, one down from last year. Hunter Valley, which was the dominant club in 2017 but which fielded only one competitor last year, earned 12 first places, while Canberra swimmers took home 11 ribbons and Illawarra eight.
Other clubs competing were Central Coast, Upper North Shore, Sydney West, Northern Beaches, Mid North Coast, Sydney East, Sydney South and Macarthur.
The event was a great success. Special thanks must go to Oakhill College deputy principal Bob Munday and his team of enthusiastic student volunteers, who made the carnival possible.
