Golf Day – Oct 14 2014

Our 4th Annual Westpac Business Banking – Norwest Golf Day was held on Tuesday 14th October 2014 at one of Sydney’s most prestigious golf courses – Castle Hill Country Club. The Hills Special Olympics golf day has become our region’s major fundraising event of the year and it was great to see so many familiar faces supporting our fantastic athletes. The gods shone upon us, our organisers – Tim Millard & Phil Mulligan barely getting a few hours’ sleep the night before, as the torrential rain and thunderstorms set in. Miraculously however, from about 6.00am onwards the weather cleared to immaculate sunshine.

Play commenced at 8.00 am with 64 players hitting off after a tremendous BBQ Breakfast and drink refreshments – both hot & cold. The course was resplendent, its immaculate condition facilitating many under par shots. But the star of the day and making his 4th appearance, was Ben, an athlete whose cerebral palsy doesn’t stop him hitting the ball off the first tee to the amazement of our professional players.

Ben, who is a member of the Upper North Shore Special Olympics group thoroughly loves participating in our day and has become a local icon amongst our players. We greatly appreciate Ben Hayman’s involvement which is only made possible through the untiring support of his parents. We take this opportunity to say a huge ‘thank you’ from all of the players who love seeing you every year.

After golf concluded everyone ventured to the clubhouse for lunch, presentations, raffles and silent auctions. Our speaker this year was Rhys Wesser who spoke about his younger years growing up in central Queensland and a dream to achieve. Rhys spoke about his NRL career and his involvement today with the Souths Cares Foundation, an organisation which lends a hand to support disadvantaged and marginalised youth and their families in society.

Formalities closed at 3.00pm, however many players remained to enjoy the occasion as the torrential rain and thunderstorms returned for the rest of the day and evening. Thank you to all players and sponsors, the gods shone on us for those fabulous few hours of our 4th Westpac Business Banking – Norwest Golf Day.
