The 2019 AGM

Sydney Hills Special Olympics end of year get-together and AGM was held on Monday December 2  at Oakhill College.
The evening began with some spirited dance routines by our two dance groups. Incoming Chair Kelly Duncan then spoke, followed by Regional Sports Co-ordinator Wayne Lever.
The Oakhill College student volunteers, supplemented by two girls from Mount St Benedict College, Beecroft, were thanked for their untiring efforts. They have played a major role in Sydney Hills Special Olympics dance and swimming programs during the year.
Castle Hill Lions member Carole Rathgeber presented Jared McCombe with a special award – Jared assists at Monday night swimming and he didn’t miss a single night during the whole year.
There was a huge round of applause for Lauren Heggie, the swimming superstar who represented Australia at the Special Olympics World Games in Dubai in March. Both Lauren and her mother Kylie spoke about their experiences in the Middle East.
Our wonderful coaches and venue co-ordinators were also recognised, while athletes who had represented the club in competition were presented with both certificates and badges.
Wayne Lever gave a rundown on the new sports looming for our club in 2020. They are athletics, partnering with the Hills District Athletic Club in Baulkham Hills or the Cherrybrook Athletics Club; and netball, partnering with St Paul’s Netball Club under the auspices of the Baulkham Hills Netball Association.

Finally, the new committee for 2020 was elected. They are:

Vice-chair: Barry Philps
Secretary: Rolla Wadih
Treasurer – Sam Mohammadpour
Publicity Officer: Michael Richardson
Social Media/Uniforms: Christine Matthews
