And a good time was had by all…

The sun shone, the players smiled and by all accounts the golfing teams had a successful day at hitting those balls. Thanks to the  volunteers, and our athletes who offered the golfers some helpful tips on their swing, putt and choice of golf club (Corey). The 2016 Sydney Hills Special Olympics Golf Day – our club’s major fund-raiser of the year – was held in perfect weather at Castle Hill Country Club on October 25. More than 80 enthusiastic golfers turned up to compete in the Ambrose tournament  at one of Sydney’s premier golf courses. Under Ambrose rules, players are divided into four-person teams. Each member of the team hits a ball, then everyone hits from where the best ball lands, for each stroke as well as during putting. The team then records the number of strokes per hole as though just one golfer is competing. The great thing about Ambrose is that it allows players of varying abilities to compete against one another. Players also had the chance to compete for special prizes during the day on a number of difficult holes, including the treacherous over-the-water 17th. At lunchtime players were entertained by comedian Simon Kennedy as well as the action shots of the Ambrose tournament you see here, which were played onto a screen. The proceeds from the day are being used not only to assist Hills Special Olympics’ normal sporting program, but also to help four Hills athletes compete in the Trans-Tasman Special Olympics at Hamilton, New Zealand, in November. Sydney Hills Special Olympics would like to thank organisers Phill Mulligan and Tim Millard, and our generous sponsors – especially Westpac Business Banking Norwest.
